Baby Formula Amount Calculator
Estimate how much formula your baby may need per day and per feed, based on weight and age.
Enter your baby’s weight and age to estimate how much formula they may drink in a day and at each feed. It’s a guide, not a target — let your baby’s hunger and fullness cues lead.
Estimates for general guidance only — every baby is different. Ask your pediatrician about your own child.
How it works
- Daily amount: about 2½ ounces of formula per pound of body weight per day (about 165 ml per kg), as described by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Upper limit: most babies don’t need more than about 32 oz (960 ml) in 24 hours.
- Per feed: the daily amount divided by a typical number of feeds for that age.
- First days: newborn stomachs are tiny — feeds start at about ½–1 oz and grow quickly.
- From 6–7 months: solid foods begin to replace some milk.
Watch your baby, not the bottle
Signs of hunger: rooting, sucking on hands, lip-smacking. Signs of fullness: slowing down, turning away, relaxed hands. It’s normal for appetite to vary from feed to feed. Plenty of wet diapers and steady weight gain are the best signs your baby is getting enough.
- regularly drinks much more or less than the estimate and seems unsettled;
- has fewer wet diapers, vomits often, or isn’t gaining weight.
